The MC14530B is a dual five-input majoritylogic gate implemented in CMOS. It evaluates five logic inputs (AE) and a control input (W), outputting 1 when three or more of AE are 1, then gating that result with W. Conversely, it outputs 0 when three or more inputs are 0, regardless of W. Diode protection on every input guards against static discharge, and the device can directly drive two low-power TTL loads or one low-power SchottkyTTL load.
Constructed with complementary P-channel and N-channel enhancement-mode MOSFETs, the MC14530B features matched pull-up and pull-down networks for balanced rise/fall times. Its high-impedance inputs accept voltages from 0.5 V up to VDD+0.5 V, while output stages source and sink up to 10 mA. A wide supply range (3 V to 18 V) allows flexible system integration. Unused inputs must be tied to VSS or VDD; unused outputs remain open.
By embedding majority logic in a single 16-pin package, the MC14530B simplifies both combinational and sequential designsreducing component count compared to discrete gates. Its protection circuitry and broad voltage tolerance enhance reliability in noisy or mixed-voltage environments. Typical applications include custom flip-flops, multivibrators, and programmablelogic modules where compact, high-fan-in logic functions are required.
