Why choose this over the XL6009?

While the XL6009 is newer and smaller, the LM2577/LM2596 combo is often preferred by old school engineers because it handles higher heat loads slightly better and is famous for having a lower failure rate when pushed near its 2A limit. Its the Heavy Duty version of a mini buck-boost.
