The KYORITSU KEW 4300 is a handheld, simplified earth resistance tester designed for quick, two-pole measurements using existing earth electrodes (e.g. buried water pipes or building lightning rods). Its compact body houses a rotary range switch and an integral LED worklight that automatically adapts to ambient brightness, making it ideal for field use in dimly lit areas.
Employing a constant-current fall-of-potential method, the tester injects a small AC current (1.4 mA at 825 Hz on the 200 range; 0.7 mA at 825 Hz on the 2000 range) between the H(C) and E terminals, then measures the voltage drop to calculate Rx + re. The result earth resistance plus any existing earth electrode resistance is displayed instantly; deduct any known re to obtain true Rx.
Built to withstand indoor environments up to 2000 m altitude, the KEW 4300 features a protective finger-guard, glow-in-the-dark TEST button, and a warning buzzer that sounds below 100 . Its backlit LCD auto-shuts after 2 minutes, and the instrument powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity, preserving two AA alkaline cells. A live-circuit LED warns if line voltage exceeds 30 V during resistance measurement.
