Overview

The 5 Way Flame Sensor Module is a highly efficient multi-channel fire detection board designed for advanced robotics and automated safety systems. It utilizes five specialized photodiode sensors that are highly sensitive to short-wave infrared radiation emitted by open flames (wavelengths between 700nm to 1100nm).

Driven by the onboard LM393 voltage comparator, the board simultaneously processes signals from all five zones. This allows an Arduino or ESP32 to pinpoint exactly which direction the fire is coming from (Left, Far Left, Center, Right, or Far Right) without needing any moving mechanical parts.

Key Features

  • 120 Wide Detection Angle: Five sensors arranged in a precise arc provide sweeping coverage, eliminating blind spots.

  • Onboard Signal Conditioning: Uses the robust LM393 comparator IC for clean, noise-free digital outputs.

  • Individual Channel Tuning: Equipped with high-precision potentiometers to adjust the sensitivity and detection distance of the zones.

  • Visual Diagnostics: Features 1 Power LED and 5 dedicated status indicator LEDs that light up in real-time when a flame is detected on that specific channel.

  • Digital Outputs: Simple 5-pin digital interface makes it universally compatible with any microcontroller.

Technical Specifications

Why upgrade from a single flame sensor?

  • No Servo Needed: A single sensor requires a servo motor to sweep back and forth to find fire. This 5-way module sees everything statically, reducing mechanical complexity and failure points.

  • Instantaneous Response: The microcontroller reads all 5 channels in parallel, cutting reaction times down to microsecondscrucial for competitive firefighting robot challenges.
