The TP5100 is a programmable, switch-mode buck (step-down) lithium battery charging management chip module. It is engineered to handle single-cell (4.2 V) or dual-cell (8.4 V) lithium battery configurations.
Because it operates as a switching regulator rather than a linear regulator, it achieves incredible power efficiency, allowing it to charge batteries at double the speed (2A) of standard modules without generating excessive, damaging heat. It includes built-in over-current, under-voltage, over-temperature, and short-circuit protections.
Dual-Cell Versatility: Charges a standard 1S lithium battery or a 2S series lithium pack (8.4 Vtotal) with a simple solder pad bridge adjustment.
Rapid 2A Charging Rate: Shipped as 2A by default, reducing battery charge times by up to 50%compared to 1A chargers.
Wide Input Range: Can handle a broad input voltage (5V to 18 V), making it perfect for multi-voltage projects or solar panel inputs.
Onboard Status LED: Built-in dual-color LED displays real-time charging status (Red: Charging | Blue/Green: Fully Charged / Standby).
Dedicated External LED Headers: Features solder pads to attach an external LED indicator if you are mounting the board inside an enclosure.

To adapt the board to your specific battery pack, locate the marked solder traces on the PCB:
To Enable 8.4V (2S Series Pack Mode): Locate the two pads labeled SET and bridge them together with a drop of solder. (Leave open for standard single-cell 4.2V operation).
To Reduce Charging Current to 1A: The board uses dual parallel current sensing resistors to achieve 2A. Desolder or remove one of the onboard 0.1 ohm resistors to limit the output current safely to 1A (ideal for smaller capacity cells).
