Overview

The MG-811 CO2 Sensor Module is a premium gas sensor designed to detect Carbon Dioxide (CO_2) concentrations ranging from 350 to 10,000 ppm. Utilizing a solid electrolyte cell, the sensor experiences a chemical reaction when exposed to CO_2, generating an electromotive force.

Because the raw sensor output is tiny, this module comes equipped with an onboard operational amplifier circuit to scale the signal, making it perfectly readable by standard microcontroller analog-to-digital converters (ADCs).

Key Features

  • True Electrochemical Sensing: Employs a solid electrolyte heating probe for precise, scientific gas analysis.

  • Dual Output Modes: Features both an Analog Output (A0) for precise ppm measurement and a Digital Output (D0) with an adjustable potentiometer threshold for simple alert triggers.

  • Onboard Signal Conditioning: Includes a high-gain signal amplifier to maximize resolution for microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, and STM32.

  • Wide Detection Range: Reliably monitors $CO_2$ from atmospheric baseline levels (~400 ppm) up to industrial limits (10,000 ppm).

  • Robust Hardware: Gold-plated pins and a rugged mesh cover protect the delicate internal heating element.

Technical Specifications

Feature Specification
Operating Voltage 5.0V pm0.1V DC
Heater Current ~140mA (Requires robust power supply)
Detection Range 350 to 10,000 ppm (CO_2)
Output Signal Analog (Voltage decreases as CO_2increases) & Digital
Preheat Time Minimum 24 hours (for stable calibration)
Module Dimensions 35mm x 32mm x 24mm

Important Calibration Note

Electrochemical sensors require a burn-in period. The MG811 must be powered on continuously for 24 to 48 hours before its readings stabilize for calibration. Additionally, the analog output voltage has an inverse relationship with gas concentrationas $O_2levels rise, the output voltage drops.
